Manuel Barrera was called home to our Lord on June 10, 2021, at the University of Chicago Hospital. He was born on June 22, 1930 in Poth, Texas to Conrado Barrera and Antonia Jiminez-Barrera, who preceded him in death. Manuel 's deceased brothers and sisters include: Sergio Sr., Mario, David, Corado, Casimiro, Benito, Favio, and Eudelia Barrera. Minerva Barrera-Jiminez, Emilia Barrera-Escobedo, and Ernesto Sosa. In order to help his family, at the age of nine he started picking tomatoes, peppers, and other fruits in the fields of Texas. In 1940, he moved to Chicago and began working at U.S. Steel South Works, located along the Calumet River. He worked there the entirety of his career. After retiring, Manuel spent his time helping to raise his nieces Margie and Rosita, along with his great nephew Esteban(PJ). He spent his few remaining years in South Chicago, where he loved to walk around the neighborhood and go to his favorite stores and restaurants. He would talk for hours about the days he worked in the fields of Texas and the steel mill to anyone that would listen. Even if he wasn't telling a story, just his smile was enough to enlighten any and every given moment. He is survived by his Nieces: Rosita, Nancy, Trinidad(Tiny), and Angie Escobedo. His nephews: Esteban Ocasio(PJ), Keith Paprocki, Ignacio, and Louie Escobedo. Including a host of family members from the Barrera and Jiminez Family, along with friends.
