In Loving Memory of Rafael M. Hernandez, affectionately known as "Rafo," late of South Chicago, passed away peacefully at age 87 on December 13th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Rafael was a devoted husband to his wife Dolores Hernandez of 65 years. He was the beloved son of Pablo and Anselma Hernandez. Rafael was preceded in death by his two sons Ernie and Tommy. He was the cherished father of Christine (Rubin), Steve (Cori), Gloria, Linda (Frank), Michael (Norma), Ralphie, Rafael Jr, (Sharon), Jimmy and Nancy. Rafael was the dearest grandfather to many amazing and loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews who always held a special place in his heart.

Rafael was born and raised in Cayey, Puerto Rico before relocating to Chicago, Illinois in the 1950's where he soon began work as a steelworker and overhead crane operator for many years. His hard work and resilience were always on display throughout his many years of demanding physical work at the steel mill. Rafael never turned away from a challenge, and he engaged his work with positive spirits and cherished his ability to support his family. Rafael truly enjoyed all of life's moments with his family and friends, and his spirit was always happiest in the presence of those he cherished.

He loved fishing, gardening and fixing up his yard on his days off with a cool breeze under the Chicago sun. Rafael loved to play his instruments and listen to all types of music. Rafael was also a devoted friend to many of his neighbors and friends. He will be dearly missed by many friends, family, neighbors, relatives and many others who were blessed to know him and cherish the time spent with Rafael.

Public Visitation will be held for Rafael on Thursday, December 18th, 2025 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Prayer Service to commence at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 19th, from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM. Prayers from Chapel at 9:00 AM for Interment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery of Calumet City.
