It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nelson "Papi" Velazquez, who left this world on March 29, 2025, at the age of 66. Nelson was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico, to his loving parents, Domingo and Zoila Velazquez.
A devoted husband for 28 years, Nelson is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy; his children, Nelson Jr. (Mariah), Antoinette, Maribel (Tony), and David (Jamie); and his cherished grandchildren, Nolan, David, Mia, Maurice, Nadia, Garrett, Arianna, Olin, Annalise, Logan, and Dalilah. His love and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was kind and generous, always offering a helping hand to those in need.
Nelson found joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time with his family, hanging out, listening to music, watching movies together, and cheering on the kids as they played sports. He will always be remembered for his humor, loud personality, unwavering commitment to family, and his habit of dancing when he thought nobody was watching.
He dedicated 39 years of hard work and commitment to MeadWestvaco as a die builder, rarely missing a day of work and forming many longtime friendships., leaving behind a legacy of dedication and perseverance.
Nelson's love was unwavering, a testament to his generous spirit and devotion to those he held dear. His unconditional love knew no bounds, offering warmth, comfort, and strength to his family and friends. A man of undying love, he gave selflessly, always putting others before himself, ensuring that his presence was felt not only in grand gestures but in the quiet moments that truly mattered.
His memory will forever be a guiding light in the lives of those he touched. Rest in peace, Nelson "Papi" Velazquez. You will always be loved and remembered.
Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Sadowski Funeral Home of Hegewisch: 13300 S. Houston Ave., Chicago, IL 60633. Visitation for Nelson will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Prayer Service to commence at 6:30 PM. Funeral Service to follow on Saturday April 5, 2025 from 12:00 PM Noon until 1:00 PM. Prayers from Chapel at 1:00 PM for 2:00 PM Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church of South Chicago. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Calumet City, IL.
