Susan Colón, born January 11th 1955, passed away on December 26th, 2023 at the age of 68, surrounded by family. Susan was the widow of Rosendo Vega. They shared a loving life together in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Marcella and Fortunato Palomo. She was very active within PTA, LSC and UNO organizations. She spent countless hours advocating for children and creating opportunities for family engagement. Susan also worked as a Juvenile Correctional Officer at the Chicago Juvenile Temporary Detention Center and retired in 2016. She left a lasting impact on all her places of work.
She was a member of the Eastside United Methodist Church, where she passionately lead the worship team for years. Susan recently became a member at Iglesia Despertamiento NSI in Indiana. When she was not spending time with her grandchildren, she was studying the Bible with her brothers and sisters in Christ. Susan would go out of her way and help those around her, whether it was being a listening ear, feeding you or giving you a ride. You could often find her at Cal Park having impactful phone chats while enjoying the view of Lake Michigan. Whether she was carpooling the grandkids or going out for a cup of coffee at her local diners, Susan always carried herself with regal grace. She will be remembered fondly for her bright smile, strong willed personality and sense of fashion.
